SNP
President, local MEP Ian Hudghton, took
part in a question and answer session with the Social Sciences students
of Angus College.
As part
of their course the students had been studying the structure and
decision-making process of the European Union. Mr. Hudghton outlined
the role of the European Parliament and answered a wide range of
questions on topics from sovereignty to EU enlargement, and fisheries
policy to the Euro currency. Commenting afterwards Ian Hudghton said:
“Like it
or not the EU has a major influence on Scotland, and it is always useful
for students to be aware of the ins and outs of the complex
Brussels-based decision-making processes. Only by understanding the
democratic process, can people in Scotland take advantage of the
opportunities which exist to influence policy-making.”
